THE ANDEAN ORACLE

The Talking God

In Quechua, Apurímac means "The Great Speaker". When you hear the roar of its rapids bouncing off the granite walls, you will understand exactly why the Incas revered it as a deity.

Navigating this river is not just a technical descent, it is a pilgrimage to the furthest source of the Amazon River. You will enter a colossal geological fault, where civilization is left behind and the riverbed demands precise reading, strength, and absolute teamwork. This expedition is designed for those seeking the purest, wildest, and most remote essence of world-class rafting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before embarking on the adventure of the "Talking God".

It is highly recommended to have previous rafting experience or be in excellent physical condition and feel very comfortable in the water. We will face Class III, IV and V rapids, which demands strong paddling, knowing how to swim, and following precise instructions from the guides in high-adrenaline situations.

We provide all technical equipment (wetsuit, helmet, life jacket, river shoes) and camping equipment (tents and sleeping pads). You only need to bring: swimwear, a towel, dry and warm clothes for the night at camp (temperatures drop in the canyon), sunscreen, insect repellent, and a headlamp.

A portage means we encounter a rapid that is too dangerous to navigate (Class VI). For strict safety, everyone gets off the rafts and walks along a trail on the shore, while our expert guides pass the empty rafts through the rapid using a rope system. It is a standard and 100% safe procedure.

All meals are included: 2 lunches, 1 hearty dinner, and 1 energetic breakfast. We bring cooks on the expedition who prepare everything fresh at camp. If you have dietary restrictions, let us know when booking. As for bathrooms, we implement a portable toilet system (expedition style) at camp that is hygienic and respects the "Leave No Trace" principle.

The ideal season to navigate the Apurímac is between May and November, coinciding with the dry season in the Peruvian highlands. During these months, the river flow is perfect for technical rapids without reaching dangerous flood levels, and the nights in the canyon are usually clear for stargazing.
